VEGGI Farmer Cooperative
VEGGI is a community farm associated with Mary Queen of Vietnam Church in New Orleans East, owned and operated by Vietnamese immigrants and their families, refugees since the fall of Saigon. As a marginalized community, these people face many challenges in establishing their homes and farms and further challenges reestablishing after major disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. In this project, I designed a youth outreach program which partnered with VEGGI for gardening training and college prep assistance for young people in the community. Beyond that I also worked on a design for the church property adjacent to the farm to tie the new construction into the neighborhood.
